What is the BEF Futurity?

Posted on by Sheri Tozer-Robb

The futurity is sponsored by Baileys Horse Feeds and is held in various regions throughout the country, run by the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) it’s a series of evaluations for potential sport horses and ponies from foals to three year olds destined for a careers as dressage horses, show jumpers, eventers or sport ponies.

The Futurity seeks to identify elite horses for the World Class Equine Pathway as well as helping to impartially evaluate the young stock they are producing.

The Futurity is an evaluation, as distinct from a show. Horses are scored on how they meet set criteria for the discipline they have entered – in other words their performance potential.

How does it work?

Owners and breeders bring their youngsters to a centre in their region where they will be seen in hand by a vet and then seen loose in a safe indoor environment so they can show themselves to the best of their ability.

After the evaluation a detailed score sheet with advisory notes is available for you to take home all entries will receive a diploma certificate and rosettes . High scoring horses will be invited to participate in the Futurity Elite Championship Show in late Aug/Sept of the year entered. This is judged by high profile riders and trainers.
